Chambers undertakes a considerable quantity of general commercial litigation on behalf of both corporate and private clients.

Education

Our Education Law Group advises and represents local authorities, responsible bodies and parents at all levels. We supply specialist guidance on Special Education Wants, Disability Discrimination in schools, admission and exclusion instances, and education of youngsters in care as well as on further and higher education and education negligence issues.

Members of chambers appear just before HESC (SENDIST) tribunals, Admission and Exclusion Appeals panels and before the Administrative Court in the High Court on Judicial Review claims.  We can advise on all aspects of education and special educational wants litigation and work in a client-focused way towards practical solutions. We act for independent schools in relation to contractual disputes, disability discrimination claims, admission and exclusions and guidance on the CSCI inspection requirements for boarding providers.  We also advise and represent teachers as experts prior to their regulatory body, the General Teaching Council.

Working alongside this group, Guildford Chambers assist schools and local authorities on related matters such as employment contracts, human rights problems and claims arising out of bullying.

We accept directions from solicitors in private or corporate practice, local authorities and prosecute on behalf of a lot of agencies including the Crown Prosecution Service. Our members appear in courts and tribunals, chair arbitrations and attend conferences at venues throughout the country.

 

Because March 1993 we have undertaken Direct Professional Access (Bar Direct) work and welcome direct instructions from surveyors, accountants and members of other approved professional bodies. Guildford Chambers also have several Members of Chambers who undertake work under Public Access.
